Indie games, who doesn’t love them. Made by independent publishers who put their soul and heart into the game they believe it will be good. The fun part of indie games is that they can be very unique and creative. Next to that, they don’t cost that much and you get quality games for your money. Now that you can’t go outside due to the Coronavirus and your game library is empty, I could fill it up for you with some indie games that might get your attention.
Action
Ever played The Binding of Isaac? Well meet his cousin, Enter The Gungeon. Enter The Gungeon is a top-down rogue-ish game where you can choose one of the four characters to play with. Your mission is to go deeper into The Gungeon and unravel its secrets. This game will keep you coming back with its loot system, dungeon rooms, free DLC’s and funny looking bosses who exactly harder than you think. So be ready to see the defeat screen more than a few times.
To be quite honest it’s such a great feeling when you kill a boss and pick up the loot he left. It’s like ordering a pizza but you also get free ice cream….great right? Each floor will give you a hand full of secret rooms, treasures, and enemies that will try to kill you. Enter The Gungeon has more than 300 unique weapons you can use. Even if you defeat The Gungeon you still will come back to it, why? Because there is still more to explore. Scared to play this alone? No worries Enter The Gungeon also supports co-op. This means you can invite that one weird cousin over and let him be your human shield IN THE GAME, of course.
Enter The Gungeon is available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and Windows.
Cuphead

You can’t make a ‘Best Indie Games’ list without naming Cuphead. Let’s be honest, we all know this game and if you haven’t played it at this point you are making a stupid decision. Cuphead is like candy to my eyes, and my lord the music, it’s so good. Don’t start dreaming because this game is hard. I know, I know I said Enter The Gungeon was hard, but this game….it’s all about boss fights. The story follows Cuphead and his little brother Mugman. They made a deal with the devil, and lost the bet so now they need to get all the soul contracts from other monsters. Doesn’t that sound great to your ears? Well, don’t get too hasty because this game will test every single sense in you, and you will love it.
This is the kind of game where you want to buy a second controller just for a backup, because you might get in a situation where you will throw your controller against the wall. This is the kind of game where you want to buy a second controller just for a backup. You might get in a situation where you will throw your controller against the wall. In Cuphead you can’t just rush the boss, you need to analyze and understand the patterns of each boss fight. Only then you can win and believe me it does feel good after dying 30 times. Nonetheless, Cuphead game is amazing. The lovely music and stunning visuals of the game will keep you sucked in, even if you are at the edge of your sanity.
Cuphead is available on Xbox One, Switch and Windows.
Role-playing / Card Game
Slay the Spire

Do you love Yu-Gi-Oh or Hearthstone? Well, this ain’t like that. Slay the Spire is something you have been sleeping on your whole life. Slay the Spire is a mix of two genres: trading card game and role-playing game. It one of the best replayable games I have ever played. In this game, you start to choose one of the four classes and start your adventure in the dungeon. In your adventure you will face enemies, you will fight them with…cards. Every time you defeat an enemy you get to choose a card to put in your deck. Eventually, you will bump into shops, traps, and more enemies. At the end of every dungeon you face off a boss, and oh boy they can be very hard. Just like Enter The Gungeon, you might see the defeat screen more then you thought. Slay the Spire is great for short and long sessions, so don’t hesitate and get it all ready.
Slay the Spire is available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and Windows.
Adventure
Untitled Goose Game

A game where you play as a [wait for it] Goose, awesome right! Untitled Goose Game is a game about a goose who lives in a small town in England where he is tasked to make chaos and steal items such as: radios, shoes, crops, buckets and more. You could say that this is Hitman but instead of playing a bald guy in a black suit you play as a goose who can honk. Let me tell you, you will enjoy this game for many hours with the ‘to-do’ list. And I mean isn’t it fun to ruin people’s day as a goose? Yes. Just get it already.
Untitled Goose Game is available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and Windows.
Undertale

Last but not least, Undertale. If you think that you don’t have emotions, you should try this game out. Undertale is one of those games that will give you all kinds of emotions. The look of the game does give you that old-school JRPG feel like Earthbound. But this game brings more on the table then its old-school look.
Undertale is a story-driven game about a nameless girl who discovered that she fell into a different world where monsters exist. She meets different kinds of monsters, some are good and some are bad. What really makes Undertale precious are the characters. There is put so much love and personality in every creature, and don’t get me started about the soundtracks in this game just amazing. If you are open to an adventure one of the best indie games every I would totally advise you to get Undertale.
Undertale is available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and Windows.
